Originally a fort built to protect the Naples river system and nearby coast from ***anese or Italian attack during WW2. With the allied victory in 1945, the fort had fallen into disrepair due to lack of use/need. In 1962, Gator land purchased the land from the military, aiming to construct a second successful park/ rescue area. Over the years many unique rescued animals were housed at the park.
