Originally a fort built to protect the Naples river system and nearby coast from Japanese or Italian attack during WW2. With the allied victory in 1945, the fort had fallen into disrepair due to lack of use/need. In 1962, Gator land purchased the land from the military, aiming to construct a second successful park/ rescue area. Over the years many unique rescued animals were housed at the park. …
